Ever since I started doing the podcast, I've been journaling more regularly also. The morning pages in particular, as elucidated by Julia Cameron, three pages of long hand soon as you wake up in the morning, is one of the more liberating exercises a person can do. It accesses the mind that dreams and thoughts we had all night long.
Night shifters don't have the luxury of waking up in the morning and writing in the manner just described. However after they take a nap, they can do their morning pages without any problems whatsoever. I know because I do it that way myself.
I started doing the morning pages in 1993 and noticed immediately an acceleration of creativity that previously laid dormant. When in stages of intense creativity, it is so important to take care of ourselves.
I remember doing a study on creativity and the stages of the creative process when I started doing the morning pages. The five stages of the creative process are as follows:
Preparation
Intubation
Illumination
Confirmation
Validation
Today's podcast goes into detail about the creative process and how to do the morning pages.
