I have been contemplating Unexamined Codependency in the nursing profession, today.
Fortunately the time has come to face this traditional nursing way of Being, and in facing it straight on, we disarm the monster that haunts the nursing psyche.
A nursing colleague of mine told me that the unit was so busy yesterday, that no one got to eat or drink. When the nurse said she wanted to take a break to drink some water, the response was: No one else is getting a break.
The martyr syndrome, the poor me I am suffering, I have more to do and I don't need any help because I can do it better than you syndrome-- is alive and well in the nursing arena where some of us still choose to play.
Except because of this all prevailing attitude, it isn't any fun, anymore.
So what is the solution? Map out the nursing psyche and call it what it is-- the wounded healer, the unrepentant codependent, the abused warrior whom even God has forsaken.
Turn it around? God has not forsaken me, I have forsaken myself.
Turn that around? I will take care of myself before taking care of anyone else. I say a prayer to do this.
The Nurses Prayer: O Great Creator, thank you for pointing me in the direction of my Soul calling: to love myself by nurturing myself before I attempt to nurture anyone else. Thank you for giving me the sense of humor to laugh at all the great ironies of life. Thank you for helping me to heal my life with a laugh and a Prayer.
Om Peace Amen
Here is my dog, Ulysses, with Trouble The Dog Duncan. Ulysses was ill when this was taken, but the presence of Trouble and about fifteen other interventions, helped Ulysses to recover.
Healing comes from unexplained sources more often than not. As nurses, we would do well to allow the healing to happen, and accept it rather than deny it.
As nurses, we do a much better job when we open our minds, rather than close them.
Healing Happens. Let the healing begin!

Kate Loving And The Collective Wisdom 09/20 by Kate Loving Shenk | Blog Talk Radio.
This whole radio show was a Prayer Reading which turned out to be auspicious. Soon after, my radio show was picked up by New World Library, publisher of Eckhart Tolle's books, to interview newly published authors. For that, I will be eternally grateful!A Prayer Reading is something I thought I would try on the radio show, to see if this practice would be a good one to continue in the future.
Prayer is a Universal Language. Certainly everyone in any religion or spiritual walk of life has the inner vision to pray, prayerfully. This practice has a humbling effect upon the psyche. It is a meditation. And meditation is also a prayer.
So Prayer Readings will become a regular spot on my radio show. The next one will be in the New Year.

This blog is waiting for me to take it to a whole new level. It is urging me to use it in a unique way that stands out from simply another place to repost the prayers from the Pray To Heal Blog at Crabbysbeach.
The name of this blog is Nurse Healers. So from now on, Nurse Healer issues will be addressed.
Onward.

Dear Godess, The energy of prayer is not something that is "sent" and "received." We do not require that it go anywhere, because it is omnipresent: it exists everywhere. A prayer that is focused on a person or an animal halfway across the world is as powerful as a prayer that is focused on the family next door.
All energy exists in the now and it is not stronger or weaker the farther it goes. The energy of prayer is immediate, meaning that which is focused near or far is happening in the present moment, and happens simultaneously. This is how Quantum Physics describes the effects of prayer.
ESP and clairvoyance works in this way, as well. Naturally these explanations add to the mystery of how and why prayer works. We are satisfied that it does work, and as we learn to drop the need for rational explanations, we work more on the energy of Faith to pray, and to pray often.
Love, compassion and non-judgment set the foundation for prayer and its effects. A good time to pray is when you feel your buttons being pushed, and a resistance rising up to confront the "what is" of what is occurring in your life.
Why do we fight on the battleground of the mind? Why can't we detached and find that the battleground is not a fact but a figment of a made up illusion?
A good example for me is the Bush Era torture practices still employed now by the military. Obama could outlaw torture but he so far has not. Whenever I think of this, I lose all sense of balance or calm.
I am sure we all have our own push button hot points.
What do we do about these?
Pause and pray, asking the Divine to erase and clean the identity we cling to, and replace it with the Identity we aspire to.
Who are we, really?
Om Peace Amen

Your Daily Prayer For Healing-12/13/2010-Your Prayer For Today.
Dear God/ess, I was thinking, over the weekend, of the Eckhart Tolle/Oprah Winfrey webinar exploring each chapter in depth of "A New Earth: Awakening To Your Life's Purpose" and how it deepened my awareness and practice of Mindfulness, a spiritual discipline I've loved for many years.
Each week the webinar attracted several million more people who downloaded and streamed the program. People called in and asked Oprah and Eckhart great questions about the concepts in the book. It was a pleasure to watch Eckhart Tolle teach the spiritual principles calmly and peacefully and when he became excited by a certain concept, he half chuckled and giggled, which was fun to watch!
I went to my Oral Surgeon soon after the Webinar for an implant, carrying "A New Earth" under my arm. The surgeon immediately made a comment about the book and the webinar on Oprah.com.
So we discussed the ideas in the book. What I noticed is that he "got it." He knew exactly what I was talking about when I said that the book is about how to live mindfully, consciously and in the Now. When I said the Egoic Mind can be eradicated by present moment living, the surgeon went into a rant about rude behavior, unkind people and violence in American Society.
I said, Yes but you don't need to react to the chaos. Inner peaceful presence is always available for your pleasure and inward sense of solace.
I wondered if he was referring to a client who was having a melt down in the waiting room as I was led back to my exam room. She insisted that the office did not call her that morning to tell her about her rescheduled appointment. The woman was angry, tense and had the look of someone who was just about to commit a violent act right there in the waiting room.
The other people there looked anxious as she kept yelling at the receptionist.
Eckhart Tolle would call this woman's negative energy her "pain body."
As we reacted negatively to her energy, our own pain body was triggered.
The pain body is the energy field of old emotions that live in almost every human being. The pain body is not just individual in nature. It accounts for all the suffering of collective humanity as in the case of rape, pillage, tribal warfare, wars, slavery and genocide.
The pain body is an addiction to unhappiness.
So there it was in the waiting room that day: A living breathing pain body that triggered everyone else's pain body to react, to feel better than, to judge this woman and even to use her as an example as to why people in today's society are so screwed up.
Since so few of us like going to the Dentist let alone an Oral Surgeon, the pain body is perhaps more easily triggered in places such as these.
This is a beautiful example of an activated pain body, but every day we can find at least one. The beauty is found when reaction ceases, and we become the Compassionate Presence or witness who really is a spark of our own divinity.
True happiness arises out of present moment atunement and is always available as soon as we allow it!
I loved the way Tolle describes dogs: as Guardians of Being.
As I watched and absorbed the webinar, I was simultaneously taking care of my dog Mukunda, as he recovered from major surgery, the removal of 3 large cysts: 1 from the left side and 2 from the right side.
My dogs Mukunda, and now Ulysses, like it best when I'm focused on their antics, when I hang out with them exclusively, when I walk with them, throw balls for them, swim in the river and ocean with them, and stroke, brush and tell them how much I love them.
When I absorb myself in cyberspace, read a book or especially when I talk on the phone, Mukunda used to bark excitedly, reminding me to resume my love affair with him.
The world tells me these dogs are spoiled. But I know that they are telling me to Be Here Now, to look to them to best teach me exactly how to do this.
So I look to them to teach me how this is done.
And they have been my best teachers, counselors, companions and all around best pals.
I look to them.
I look up to them.
They are my Guardians of Being.
The waiting rooms of the world may always have unhappy people in them, people who still can absorb the truth that the present moment is exactly where their happiness is found, even if the Nowness is found in the waiting room of an Oral Surgeon.
I can't take my dogs there. But they will always be found in my heart, where ever I go, in the joy of the quiet mind.
Om Peace Amen

Your Daily Prayer For Healing-12/10/2010-Your Prayer For Today | Your Daily Prayer For Healing.
Dear God/ess, I just got off the phone with our friend, Sheila Audet, Astrology's Astrologer. (She hates it when I call her that).
I delivered flowers to her house the other day to thank her for teaching our Customer Service Team how to do the Thriller Dance. I told her that our team was way over our head on that one, and if not for her guidance, we would never have been able to do it.
However, Sheila was still asleep when I delivered the flowers, and I was laughing and talking with her partner, Jo-an, whose presence in both of our lives is a loving gift.
Sheila thought I was my mother, as she drifted in and out of sleep. Years ago, Sheila came to visit my mother at 9 am every morning and they discussed what Sheila was learning, Astrologically speaking. It happened to be 9 am when I arrived to Sheila and Jo-an's house and Sheila was transported in "time" to my mother's round kitchen table at my family home across the town where we still live.
Certain experiences have a certain timeless feeling to them. Those times around my mother's table were an example of infinite infinity. I never thought my mother would ever die, and even now, I doubt if she ever did, esoterically speaking.
I never thought my dog Mukunda would ever die, either. Why is it we think certain experiences will never end?
As we age, the impermanence of time begins to enlighten our perspective. We realize that all of our moments are precious, and we fully live them in the moments we have left.
But I still have a difficult time accepting death.
Now that I've admitted it, I can now fully release it to the angels for healing.
Om Peace Amen

Your Daily Prayer For Healing-12/09/2010-Your Prayer For Today | Your Daily Prayer For Healing.
Dear God/ess, On MoonMooYou: The Collective Wisdom this week, I loudly proclaimed to my guest, Joel Wechsler, that I was 100% against Capitol Punishment. A society that kills people as a punishment is not modeling a redemptive example to our children and grandchildren. A society that kills animals and people is not going to convince anyone to do the right thing.
We have a strictly punitive criminal justice system here in this country. What happens to a person who has not committed murder, and is locked up for years, treated like an animal without rehabilitation and then released to an unsuspecting population? How does this serve anyone, the person who committed the crime and the people s/he must go forth and co-mingle with?
The American tax-payer subsidizes this barbaric and medieval system of so called justice, which in fact creates more criminals. When society judges a person on the worst thing s/he ever did in his (or her) life, there is very little room for redemption.
Since 1973, 138 Americans have been convicted of murder and sentenced to death and subsequently exonerated, that is found to be innocent of their crime. An untold number have been put to death, claiming to be innocent. Many people have lost respect for bureaucrats and politicians these days because they commit crimes and escape punishment. If our government is indeed convicting and killing innocent people, how can We The People continue to allow these atrocities to continue?
How can we redeem our social humanitarian values from the ashes of a system that no longer serves the Common Good?
Today over half the countries of the world have abolished the Death Penalty, while we continue to execute folks at a rate unparalleled at any other time in American History.
So we take personal responsibility. We face the truth of our broken system and become honest and integrated people. In this process, we discover our inner grace and ability to forgive.
We do this because there is no other choice.
Om Peace Amen
