Dear God/ess, As we pray with each in and out breath and welcome the beautiful month of May, I wanted to discuss the canonization of Dorothy Day, as seen from the perspective of James Douglass, author of "JFK: And The Unspeakable."
I wrote to him and asked him whether the Roman Catholic Church plans to canonize Dorothy Day.
He said it would be helpful to have Dorothy Day canonized as a Saint because she would be known more widely as a result, and DESERVES to be known widely, so that "others can realize God's Will as Dorothy did."
He said that she strenuously objected to being canonized, to be identified as a saint, because she thought she'd be easily dismissed that way.
Then he said, "She'd be more tolerant of a process that might actually help people discover God's revolution in this world as she did,"
I loved this part: "Dorthy inspired many people to what they would consider miracles in their own lives, because she saw God's awesome possibilities within them. A phrase she often used in speaking of someone was, "He (or she) is a wonder!"
"When a person knew that Dorothy saw that power or possibility in you- which was, of course, true- pushed you beyond your own poor sense of self to miraculous steps forward. That's why she was, in fact, a saint."
I am thinking about these words today. How can we support those around us so that they can feel God's will because of the Love we beam their way?
The Love we give is equal to the Love that a Saint gives.
Let us strive to give that quality of Love, even as we breath our prayers, today.
Om, Peace, Amen

Dorothy Day - what a powerful memory that brings into manifestation!! Recognitions of her through canonization would be more than welcome these days - a blessing reviewed... what a great idea - thanks again, Kate Jo-an

Is this a different blog? I noticed it is Typepad and not WordPress.
I cannot seem to make an intelligent comment at the moment! LOL Maybe later? ;-)

I do have to say this is a formidable look - aggressive - your skill in formatting is impressive - I refer to the ID 10 T error personally relative to my own skills in reading it...J

You continue to enlighten me and broaden my world view. I remember the name Dorothy Day from my days training as a social worker but now need to refresh my memory and open another door to explore. Yes, the format took me by surprise but the words stand out and resonate to the heart and soul. Here is to a new month, new opportunities to embrace all the offerings of what God has set before us and to embrace each other and ourselves with God's tender love!

Yes, the prayer must go on! Just like the beat goes on and all that goes with it!
Dorothy Day was one of my childhood heroes and she came to our house once. Ammon Hennacy, her friend, and self-called "One Man Revolution" and Roman Catholic Anarchist, was really instrumental in shaping my worldview!! A wonderful and gentle nonviolent man!
